Sonna Rele

Biography

Sonna Rele is a London based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist signed to Motown Records by 3x Grammy winner, NE-YO. After discovering Sonna while perusing her captivating and heavily followed ‘Music Monday’ video clips on Facebook, he immediately brought her to the renowned music label. “There is a quality about Sonna’s voice that lingers in your ears after she performs a song. Her musicianship is refreshing and undeniably authentic”, said NE-YO.

Sonna’s musical influences point to a wise head on young shoulders with Stevie Wonder and the Beatles sitting alongside Nelly Furtado and Michael Jackson. With the inspiration of her parents, both professional musicians, never far from the surface, Sonna describes her sound as “stripped back acoustic-based songs mixed with the sound and pulse of a world-beat underneath it”. Sonna has performed across the globe with acts ranging from John Legend to Maxi Priest and collaborated with such artists as her mentor NE-YO, Matisyahu, Wyclef Jean and most recently Michael Franti on his inspirational new single, “11:59″.

As a Londoner, Sonna adores the city and its culture. “I travel and spend a lot of time away from home, but nothing beats a good cup of tea!”. Sonna also admits to keeping a book of quotes from people she meets. “Some people keep autograph books but I collect quotes, I’ve got thousands. I am constantly blessed in meeting some very amazing people that say the most profound or funny things, so I keep my quote book for posterity and inspiration”, smiles Sonna.

An excited Sonna shared, “I’m very humbled that NE-YO believes in my music and has brought me to Motown Records, it’s an absolute honour. I’ve been working hard for this moment and I’m truly grateful for this opportunity. It’s going to be an amazing journey ahead”.
